Let's do it, let's head north and have a full day adventure on the train jaune - leaving Anduze - with a stop off at the Bambousaerie. It'll be an experience never to forget! Book the date in your diary.
The plan:
- 11h30 from Anduze to St Jean du Gard at 12h10 for a picnic by the river. Bring goodies to share.
- 14h10 from St JduG to Bambousaerie at 14h35
- 16h35 from Bambou to Anduze 16h40
See you there, unless you miss the train, in which case Big-Pig have her mobile and it might even be switched on!

Any idea what time train you'll be going for? As I recall, the times are a bit funny - as in, if you catch it from Anduze and get to St Jean, you either have to get straight back on the next train or wait rather a long time... or maybe i have that all wrong? I guess what i'm saying is, would it be an idea to get the train timetable so folk can jump on the train, or just meet amongst the bamboos? I'd like to try and come with one or maybe both of mine, depending on what time you're planning to go (and which of them has chicken pox).
Grande personne you're dead right. The train timetable is on www.trainavapeur.com It looks like to do a train trip the best way is to either just do a short hop to the Bambousaerie from Anduze, or get the 9h30 to StJdG at 10h10 and hop back on at 10h30 to get to the bamboo at 11h05. Then to get back to the cars at Anduze you either leave at 14h35 or 16h35.
I think my kids will be happy with a short hop, getting the steam train at 10h30 from Anduze. It's only 10 mins so maybe Louis will need to do the full trip, there and back, there and back...
How about taking the train from Anduze at 1130 - arriving 1210 and having a picnic on the banks of the river and coming back on the 1400hrs into Anduze 1440 train.
We could also visit the Aquarium which is 2 mins down the road.
To get to Anduze for the train before (0930) would be an 0800hrs departure from home for me taking in time to buy tickets etc. I presume the same for you too?
What snack bar? at the Bambousarie? I don't think there's a snack bar at the train station in St Jean du Gard... (there's a bar/cafe over the road...) there is at the the Aquarium which did look very child friendly the last time I was there...
This is getting complicated ladies. I reckon we should save the Aquarium for another day (good idea though W). Far too much fun in one day is unhealthy...
Stuff the snack bar( except for ice creams) - bring a picnic, and flask of your favourite tipple to share (oh how BCA of me!). There is a neat eating area just outside the Bambousaerie.
I like Wendy's idea of the 11h30 from Anduze to St JdG to picnic (good park I remember, but are there toilets?!, then hop on the train for 2 hours at Bambousaerie then home at 16h40.
It's not a cheap day out though. The train is 11 euros per adult and free for under 4s I think, so perhaps bring id for the nearly 4s amongst us. The B is about 7,50 euros per adult.
What do you think?
